*** URGENT NEWS ***
The Maidens Head, Canterbury
There has been a complaint put in to the local council, in Canterbury, by a resident, to have the music licence revoked from The Maidens Head. It seems the council are going to look into this complaint and it could spell the end of live music at The Maidens Head ... this CANNOT happen! The Maidens Head is a thriving music venue for Punk bands who come from all over the country to play there. Entrance is always free as it's funded personally by Davee plus others, with donations from those attending, providing a trouble free venue that serves up a serious Punk presence in Canterbury. In the current climate we are already losing small music venues at a rate of knots from all across the country, which is leaving few places for aspiring bands and live music to be played. It will be a shame if a middle aged mature student who lives a distance from the venue itself is allowed to dictate in such a way, when probably the reason is that she just doesn't like Punk music and the people that come with it ....So, if you are reading this and feel strongly that you want to do something to help then either:
1. Contact Daveee (Chaospunk UK) on Facebook or through the Maidens Head website www.maidenshead.co.uk
2. Get hold of me through my contacts page
3. Better still, just send a letter to the local council
Let's show them that there is much support for this small venue and for the bands that play there.
What's It All About ?
I was never seriously into any music until around 1977 when the Punk era kicked off. This meant that I had to avidly collect any Punk, New Wave, Goth and Indie vinyl that I could lay my hands on. This has continued to the present day as I still buy vinyl, CD's etc and the collection now reaches around 2500 items. Of course just listening to recordings is not enough so, along with a close friend, we go to see many of the old and new bands live. You will see on this page any upcoming gigs that we are hoping to attend, so if you are also heading there, why not look us up.
Within this site there are galleries of photos taken by either myself, or more recently, ©GutterPunk (Punk Web Development & Photography) at these gigs, along with memorabilia and vinyl listings. So read away and look at the galleries, feel free to drop me a line from the contact page.
